What we see, what we notice and what we miss.
“Every work of art makes the same demand: ‘Look at me.’ Or, put another way, ‘Don’t look at anything else.’ At its core, art is an act of framing—deciding what to include in the field of vision, what to exclude, and what to leave to the imagination.
“Much of my work begins with that act of framing, and has recently expanded to a larger scale—spatially, intellectually, and conceptually. We move through the world as visual hunters, gathering meaning through sight, yet constantly deceived by perception. The boundaries we believe in are often constructs of our own making.
“My paintings, events, installations and conceptual pieces are all built to engage that tension. They ask viewers to slow down, to question the reliability of what they see, and to confront the assumptions that shape their visual experience. By stripping away narrative and conventional meaning, I invite the audience to participate—to complete the work through their own perception and reflection.
“Ultimately, my work is an inquiry into the act of seeing itself: how we define what’s real, what we value, and what we overlook.”
— Kevin J. Walker
Born in Paris, France, and raised in East Africa, Kevin Walker now lives and works in Los Angeles, California. His artistic journey has evolved from painting into a broader conceptual practice centered on perception, space, and the act of seeing.
While his past exhibitions across the United States and Europe have focused on painting, Walker’s current work expands into large-scale conceptual projects that explore the constructed nature of visual experience. Through the use of text, light, and spatial intervention, his recent concepts investigate how context, attention, and expectation shape what we perceive and how we assign meaning. Some of the galleries, institutions and festivals that have featured his work include:
